Refrain Privacy Policy

Refrain collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no listening history sent anywhere. Your music and everything about it stays on your device.

Nothing. We do not collect, store, transmit or sell personal information. We have no servers that receive your data, because there is nothing sending any.

The audio files you import, their tags, cover art, lyrics, playlists, play counts and any edits you make are stored on your device only. They are never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes them.

Refrain makes no network requests during normal use. It plays local files and needs no connection to do it.

There are exactly two exceptions, both of which you choose to turn on:

Cloud DJ voices. The AI DJ's built-in voice runs entirely on your device. If you instead choose a cloud voice, you supply your own API key for OpenAI, Google Gemini or ElevenLabs. That key is stored in your device's system keychain. The text to be spoken is sent from your device directly to whichever provider you chose, and their privacy policy governs what they do with it. We are not a party to that request: it does not pass through any server of ours, we never see your key, and we bill you nothing. You can remove the key at any time in Settings.

Wi-Fi transfer. When you open the Wi-Fi transfer screen, Refrain runs a small web server on your local network so a browser on your own computer can send files to your phone. It is protected by a code shown on screen, it accepts files only while that screen is open, and nothing leaves your local network. Close the screen and the server stops.

Refrain contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, no crash reporting and no social media integrations. Nothing in the app profiles you or tracks you across apps or websites.

The only third parties involved at all are the AI voice providers listed above, and only if you supply a key and turn one on.

Refrain is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete on request. Everything the app knows about you is on your device and under your control — deleting the app removes it.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. If a future version of the app ever collects anything, that will be stated plainly here before it ships.
